Hadoop and other NoSQL data sources are expanding at incredible rates, with a tremendous amount of capital being injected into the market. Companies like MapR, Hortonworks, Cloudera, Datastax and 10Gen have each raised in excess of $50 million to tap into the promise of big data. Other traditional data giants like Microsoft, EMC, IBM and Oracle and even Intel have all outlined a Big Data strategy and have invested heavily in new these new technologies. Most of these companies or divisions are only a couple to a few years old, and all are trying to keep pace with the rapid rate of change with their own core technology. All are investing millions to try to stay on top or at least ahead of the market in terms of making their systems faster, more scalable and intelligent.
